The Slip on Flange is welded both inside and outside of the pipe or fittings to provide strength and prevent leakage. The bore of Slip on Flange is slightly large than the diameter of the pipe or fittings, which should be set short of the flange face by thickness of the pipe wall plus 1/8" of an inch to avoid damage to the flange face.
